Americans are working longer and harder than ever before

A U.S. government report found the people in America are working an average of 47 hours per week and 20% are working 49 hours per week. U.S. workers put in more hours on the job than the labor force of any other industrial nation. According to the International Labor Organization, Americans work one month more than the Japanese and almost three months more than the Germans. We are also working harder, on top of working longer, adding to job stress. A 2001 survey said that workers feel like their office environment was almost like "a real survivor program," meaning the conditions were less than favorable.  Most attribute this poor environment to job stress.
