bandwagon bias

What are the effects of reviews, testimonials & case studies on sales?

What draws consumers to best-selling products & services?

How are trends born? Why do we copy others?

The answer lies in our neuropsychology.

The ‘bandwagon bias,’ also known as the ‘contagion effect’ is a phenomenon or bias in which the rate at which the spread of behaviors, trends and ideas

When we “jump on the bandwagon” we are following a trend without actually making our own rational decision or evaluation of the behavior or idea itself. This is the success of the trend that leads to further success.

why do people follow the crowd?

Our brains are fairly archaic and although we have evolved, our brains have not. People have primitive parts of their brains that affect their thoughts and behavior. In the past, our amygdala was formed to help with the fight, flight, faint or freeze options, when opposing tribes or wild animals entered into the camps.

People would live together in tribes because their survival depended on it. When we see others taking action, often our quick-thinking emotional, instinctual brain takes over.
Psychologists have been studying the bandwagon effect for decades. In Neuromarketing, this bias proves why social proof influence consumers decisions.

1. Case Studies & Testimonials Affect The Bandwagon Bias  - Seeing how other people have succeeded is one proven Neuro-sales technique that effectively enhance lead/client attraction and sales.

Reading or hearing others tell how your services successfully worked for them helps build confidence.

For example: The bigger the numbers the greater the effect since numbers matter to the brain, offering up quick statistics like “1,007 satisfied clients” or “we’ve helped 297 businesses move into the 7+ figures with their businesses” is part of Neuromarketing..

We also like to hear how successful a program has been to someone else that is similar to us. Testimonials that are short and sweet have the most impact! Celebrity endorsements work but are less effective since the person doesn’t look or behave like the consumer..

2. Reading Positive Reviews Stimulates The Bandwagon Response  - The better the reviews, the more this triggers the bandwagon response to want to join in and be part of the crowd.

For example: Reviews On Amazon, eBay and Facebook are highly trust by most online consumers..

3. Upsells and Add-Ons Use The Bandwagon Bias  -  It’s important to have add-on’s using the phrase “People who bought this item also bought these items” to trigger the bandwagon bias. People want what other people have.

This is an extremely effective technique to increase sales.

4. Images and Popularity Will Drive Sales  - When people see photos of large groups of people waiting to get into your business or large numbers of people who have successful used your services, this can impact your sales by triggering the bandwagon bias.

5. Positioning on Social Media  – People tend to search out a person they are going to work with on LinkedIn or Facebook. Next, they look to see the number of followers the business or person has. If you have a solid social media presence with a lot of “likes” and “followers,” you will increase your revenue.

There is a right way and a wrong way to position yourself. One way will attract people to you and the other will repel them. It’s important to understand the algorithms and how to properly use Neuromarketing techniques to complete your profiles

The more people know-like-trust you, the more they will be willing to become your “fans,” and life-long customers.

 "Stagnation to Decision..."

The leadership, guidance and endless support that Jodi & Jess brought me in our 1:1 sessions, allowed me to get out of my rut and turn my stagnation into decision. I was stuck for almost five years, making less per year that I did my first month, working with Jodi & Jess. It's not about the money for me, it's about making a bigger impact in the world. Now, I'm doing both. Jodi & Jess are powerhouses and I'm grateful for them guiding me along the way.!
